Task Description for Irish Fair Volunteers
As August approaches, along comes the opportunity to come back to the Irish Fair, meet old friends, and make some new ones. As we continue to grow in the number of fairgoers, our need for wonderful volunteers like you, also grows. We are currently scheduling positions for all areas of the Fair. Please complete the registration form.

General Fair Setup
Thursday:
- Haul supplies from storage to Harriet Island. We need two volunteers with their own trucks to assist with this one.
- Four volunteers to set up pipe and drapes in the large Marketplace and Artisan tents.
- Four volunteers to cover, drape and arrange tables in the Marketplace and Artisan Tents.
- Three volunteers to setup the dance floor, heavy lifting required.
- Four volunteers to monitor traffic.
Friday:
- Eight volunteers to put up banners.
- Six volunteers to monitor vendor traffic, 7am-2pm.
- Two volunteers to help vendors set up, heavy lifting is involved.
- Two volunteers needed for two four-hour shifts for small flag placement; climbing a ladder is involved.
- Two volunteers from 3-7pm for Hospitality Area setup.
- Two volunteers for setup of mini-golf, heavy lifting involved.
- Six volunteers from 12-4pm to setup chairs.
- HQ Assistant to stock green rooms and the volunteer tent, distribute programs, and run for supplies
Fair Tasks
Market Survey Crew:
Work with professional staff from the U of M to gather information from festival attendees that will help us better understand our audience and improve the festival.
Info Tent:
Positioned just inside the main entrance and near the Gateway Stage, this will be a fun and busy task. Help direct folks to where they want to go. Assist with raffle ticket sales.
Beverage and Food Ticket Sales:
Sell tickets for use in purchasing food and beverages. Check IDs and apply wristbands for those wishing to buy beer.
Food Court Assistant:
To shuttle products from storage to food vendors, should be able to drive a golf cart and do LOTS of heavy lifting.
Volunteer Check-in:
Check in volunteers, provide information and t-shirts to volunteers, direct them to the appropriate area.
Children's Area:
Assist in craft activities or staff the mini-golf.
Sports Area:
Assist with hurling and Gaelic football exhibitions, Irish Heavy Games competition, boxing exhibit or Tug of War.
Community Organization Information Tent:
2 volunteers per shift will sit under a canopy greeting visitors and directing them to the various non-profit organizations
Clean-up Crew:
Grounds Clean-up, picking up paper and cups, re-setting the chairs, and general straightening up around the grounds (six people needed each day).
Daily Clean-up Crew, walk around picking up large waste to keep the area tidy.
Beverage Service:
Serve soft drinks, beer and wine. Must be over 21. Alcohol Awareness Training Class required. If you haven't participated in a class in the past 2 years, you must attend a class this year or you won't be able to work in the beverage service area. Several classes will be held prior to the festival.
Tara Games/Tournament
2 volunteers needed to assist with the game/tournament. Arriving early for your shift would be ideal, so you can learn the game.
General Fair Tear-Down
Sunday:
- Stack chairs
- Tear down the Marketplace and Artisan Tents
- Load up the mini-golf
- Tear down the dance surfaces
- Take down banners, flags and small flags
Run With The Celts (Saturday morning approximately 8:30 – 11:30)

Summer School (August 9, 8am - Noon, 5pm - 7pm)
